Te Arawa Fisheries’ high-value manuka-smoked mussels excite Canadian High Commissioner

Canadian High Commissioner Francis Huot is excited to help Te Arawa Fisheries push its high-value Hī Mussel products into the Canadian market by the end of the year.

Te Arawa Fisheries representatives met with the High Commissioner to discuss export opportunities for its Hī Mussels not only in Canada, but also China, where His Excellency Mr Huot will next be stationed.

During these discussions, His Excellency Mr Huot also suggested Te Arawa Fisheries recruit a local First Nations person to lead the sales and marketing of the product, on the ground.

Te Arawa Fisheries wholeheartedly supports this suggestion, which will help to further cement Indigenous relationships between Māori and First Nations People.

With His Excellency Mr Huot nearing the end of his term in New Zealand, he will meet with Te Arawa Fisheries again next week to introduce us to his replacement, ensuring our valuable relationship with Canada continues.

With our best wishes for his next post, Te Arawa Fisheries gifted His Excellency Mr Huot one of our buckets of marinated mussels which he says he will thoroughly enjoy.
