Te Arawa Fisheries is thrilled to announce the launch of the Ruku Pai diving programme, in partnership with Aotearoa Dive.
This kaupapa offers sponsorship for 10 Te Arawa iwi members to participate in a comprehensive dive training programme.
Combining international certification with mātauranga Māori underwater practices, the programme promotes safety and kaitiakitanga of our moana and exposure to career opportunities in aquaculture.
Successful applicants will gain valuable industry experience through our aquaculture wānanga, where they will meet with experts and explore pathways in aquaculture.
Availability
- Applicants must be available for one of the 3-day courses and a 1-day wānanga (date TBC) in November 2024:
- Cohort 1: 13-15 September 2024
- Cohort 2: 17-19 September 2024
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a descendant of one of the 10 constituent iwi of Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa Waka Fisheries Trust
- Some prior diving experience required
- Must be 16 years or older
- A verified whakapapa sheet must be uploaded with your application
- Applicants must agree to the terms and conditions of Aotearoa Dive Rotorua, including potential medical examinations at their own expense
Applications close on 21st August 2024.
Successful applicants will engage with industry experts during a one-day aquaculture wānanga and are required to attend the Te Arawa Fisheries AGM in March 2025.
