Local Focus: Free trade agreement beneficial to Māori business

Kōrero with NZ Herald Local Focus about how the new upgrade to the free trade agreement between New Zealand and China will provide opportunities for Māori exporters and businesses.

The China FTA Upgrade will modernise New Zealand’s existing free trade agreement with China to ensure it remains high quality, fit for purpose and reflects modern trade realities. It will reinvigorate the Government’s FTA network and deliver on one of the pillars of New Zealand’s COVID-19 Trade Recovery Strategy.

Chris Karamea Insley says the agreement is hugely important and will ensure there are no adverse effects on Māori interests including te reo Māori, traditional knowledge and cultural expressions, mātauranga Māori, indigenous flora and fauna and taonga species.
