THE TE ARAWA FISHERIES GROUP

We manage fisheries assets on behalf of the iwi of Te Arawa. The proceeds are used for the benefit of all Te Arawa descendants.

OUR STRUCTURE

Te Arawa Fisheries is made up of a parent body, Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa Waka Fisheries Trust Board, and two companies, Te Arawa Fisheries Limited and Te Arawa Fisheries Holding Company Limited. The Te Arawa Fisheries Group is supported by the Chief Executive Officer and management staff.

OUR TRUST

Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa is the trust which governs the Te Arawa Fisheries Group and delivers benefits to Te Arawa descendants through programmes such as its Te Arawa 500 Scholarships, Iwi Partnerships and the provision of kaimoana to tangihanga. The board of the Trust comprises elected members representing each of our 10 iwi of Ngati Makino, Ngati Pikiao, Ngati Rangiteaorere, Ngati Rangitihi, Ngati Rangiwewehi, Ngati Tahu/Whaoa, Ngati Tarawhai, Te Ure o Uenukukopako/Ngati Whakaue, Tuhourangi and Waitaha. OUR COMPANIES

Te Arawa Fisheries Holding Company Limited and Te Arawa Fisheries Limited are owned by Te Kotahitanga o Te Arawa and are responsible for holding and managing the fisheries assets. OUR HISTORY

Our fisheries assets were received in settlement with the Crown of Te Arawa’s claims to commercial fisheries under the Maori Fisheries Act 2004. Those assets were transferred to Te Arawa Fisheries in September 2006 by the body responsible for allocation, Te Ohu Kaimoana.

OUR ASSETS

The fisheries assets transferred to Te Arawa Fisheries in September 2006 comprised $7.1m of fishing quota, $3.1m of cash and $13.3m of shares in Aotearoa Fisheries Limited.
